Some of the most impactful projects often go unnoticed in commercial contracting, but these vital infrastructure upgrades keep essential services running. Project Manager, Nate Young, and Superintendent, Shannon McNeil, recently wrapped up one such critical project: the HVAC upgrade at the USPS Margaret Sellers Sorting Facility. This large-scale overhaul ensured that one of the nation’s busiest postal processing hubs continued to operate at peak performance by improving air quality, system reliability, and energy efficiency.
The scope of work included replacing ten large-scale outdated air handling units and six hydronic water pumps. Additionally, installing a high-efficiency HVAC rooftop unit required structural reinforcements, power integration, and updated air distribution. New ductwork connections were made, while a comprehensive building management system optimized control and efficiency. Finally, the facility’s fire alarm system was upgraded to interface with the new HVAC components. All of these systems could now be monitored in real time from one central computer.
Successfully managing an out-of-state project of this scale required more than technical expertise—it demanded months of careful planning, a skilled team communicating well, and the right subcontractor. partnerships. It also came with its fair share of unexpected challenges, but each hurdle presented an opportunity to adapt, refine processes, and strengthen our problem-solving skills. United States Post Office projects continue to be a central focus for our team, ensuring that facilities like the Margaret Sellers Sorting Facility operate at their best for years to come.
